November 29th

If you can't make it for early packet pickup at Big Dog on Friday you can pickup your packet before the race on Saturday.  We will have volunteers at 6:30am to hand out packets and register runners.

It is ok for a friend or family member to pickup your packet.

November 28th

Early packet pickup will be available all day Friday at Big Dog Running Company in Auburn (next to Chappy’s).

The races will be at Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn (by Amsterdam café).  The 10k and 5k will start at 7:30am CST.  The 1 mile will begin at 9:00am CST.

The parking lot of the church will be reserved for volunteers and vendors.  Parking is available in the university parking lot on the corner of South College and Samford.

Please remember that part of the registration is a gift of a toy.  Do not wrap the toy.  Do not bring your toys to Big Dog.  Please bring them to the church on Saturday.

We have over 300 people registered already.  It should be a great day for a run!

November 26th

Just a few updates and reminders.
The 10k and 5k will start at 7:30 am cst.
The 1 mile fun run will start at 9:00 am cst.

All races will begin and end at Trinity Lutheran Church on Gay Street in Auburn.

Aubie will be in attendance for the 1 mile fun run for pictures.

Awards will be given out after the 1 mile fun run, apx 9:30.

The 5k and 10k will be using chip timing, provided by Big Dog Running Company.

On-line registration is closed.  However, you can still register at Big Dog in Auburn, or you can register the day of the race - registration will open at 6:30 am cst.  Shirts are not guaranteed for anyone that has not already registered.

Earth Fare of Auburn is supplying all water for the finish line.

Flip Flop Foto will be at the race taking pictures.

DJ Majesty, aka Mac McCracken, will be in attendance.  He will be playing some music and running the 5k!

We will have lots of great food from our sponsors and many of the AORTA members have volunteered to bring some homemade goodies (we have some really good bakers!).

November 21st

A little more than a week, are you ready?
For those who have not registered you can still do so at Big Dog in Auburn or you can register on the day of the race.  Please be sure to show up a little early.  We will have people ready at 6:30 to start taking registrations.  Please note that "late" registration is $20 - it all goes to a good cause.
I had to put the shirt order in so if you are late I can't guarantee a shirt, sorry.

November 15th

The couch to 5k is almost done and the group is looking great!  Very excited for everyone that stuck with it - GOOD JOB!

Please remember the last day for on-line registration for the races is this Saturday, November 17th.  You must be preregistered to be guaranteed a shirt.

Please also remember - part of your registration is a gift donation.  Please do not wrap the present.  We give all the presents to the Auburn Police Department.  They then take care of getting the presents to the children.

We are very grateful to all of our sponsors.  I have finally updated the list.

November 9th

Good news, Aubie will be at the 1 mile fun run.  Make sure to bring the kids and get lots of pictures.

The 1 mile fun run is $10 - this is if you would like your child to get a shirt. If you just want them to run the race and "have fun" there is no charge. Please either e-mail me or send me a message on Facebook.

Bikes and dogs are not allowed on the race course. This has to do with our liability insurance.

3 more weeks until the races!

Wow what a weekend! The registrations are really starting to come in. Thank you for registering early, it makes planning so much easier.

Please remember if you don't receive an e-mail from me I have not received your registration.

If you have not registered yet, online registration will end on November 17th on the Active web page. If you mail your registration please have it post marked by the 17th. 

If you were looking for some competition Michele Dean from Lee-Scott is recruiting the track team to run the race - they are fast!

Linda Christensen continues to work tirelessly on getting us sponsors. I will have the blog updated soon with the additional sponsors.

Big Dog was a great sponsor last year and they continue to do an awesome job. The Couch to 5k is going strong. We had over 50 people show up last night, IN THE RAIN!

Early packet pickup will be available Friday before the race.

Things are coming along nicely for the races.
The couch to 5k group is really doing well.

6 More weeks until the races!

We are still working on sponsors.  Thank goodness I have some great friends to help with this. 
The couch to 5K is going strong. 
We will be using chip timing for the 5k and 10k.  This will make the results much quicker and easier.

8 More Weeks until the Races!

Good afternoon!
The time is really flying by.
This Tuesday will be the first meeting for the Couch to 5K group.  This will be lead by Adam Pugh, the manager of the Auburn Big Dog Running Store.  They will meet every Tuesday and Thursday in the parking lot of the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art.  All contact information is listed on the link at the top of this page.  THIS IS FREE!
The final 5k will be run at the Toys for Tots race - cost for the race is $15 plus a toy.

I have posted the race on about 10 different local web pages.  If you know of any others that I should get the race on please don't hesitate to contact me.

Our sponsors are a little slower to respond this year.  Seems like there is more competition for races this year.  I am very grateful for those who have already responded.  If you know anyone that would be interested in sponsoring (either monetary or products) please contact me.

I have already met with Reggie from Big Dog and we will be using chip timing for the 5k and 10k.  This will make results much quicker and more accurate.

The new logo for the shirts was created by MasterGraphics.  Their artist is the best, hope you like it.

11 Weeks until the races!

I have posted the mail in registration form. If you mail in please make sure it is post marked by November 17th.  The link on the top will take you to the pdf file.
All routes have been approved by the Auburn City Police.

12 weeks until the races!

Just a few updates.
For those of you who ran the 10K last year, you know it was off by about two-tenths of a mile.  That has been corrected.  The second half of the 10K is different from previous years.  Please check out the map and contact me if you have any questions.

I have been talking to Reggie at Big Dog regarding chip timing for the race.  With the number of  participants we had last year this makes more sense.  The results should be much quicker and more accurate.

I have also contacted the schedulers for Aubie.  It is still too early, but at least the request has been sent!  I am very confident we will have him for the race.

Very excited to mention that Mac McCracken, known in some circles at "DJ Majesty" will be supplying music for the races.  THANK YOU MAC!!!

We have a few more registrations, I know it is still early, but I get so excited:0)

August 31st - 13 weeks until the races!

I love the excitement that comes with these races!
We already have sponsors for the races.  It was very cool to see Auburn Bank be our first sponsor, thank you!  Dr. Sprayberry also has donated, he has been a wonderful sponsor of these races for many years.  We really appreciate his generosity, again thank you!  Dr. Massey is also sponsoring, again, this year, thank you!!

We also have our first registration for the 5K.  Thank you Tiffany!

As many of you know Big Dog has been a big supporter of our local running group.  Adam Pugh, the manager of the Auburn Big Dog Running store is putting together a couch to 5K. The couch to 5K (or C25K as Adam says) will start on October 2nd.  They will meet every Tuesday and Thursday at 7:00pm at the Jule Collins Smith Museum (901 South College Street  Auburn, AL 36830) on College St.  It will finish up with the Toys for Tots 5K!  Participants will get a free shirt and a chance to win a pair of shoes.  More information on this soon.

So if you are veteran runner and want to encourage your friends, family, co-workers, etc please help spread the word.  Adam is very patient (and single, as far as I know).  It will be a great way to get people running and an excellent way to meet new people.

1st posting

Welcome to the Aorta Toys for Tots race page.

The race will be December 1st, 2012.  There will be 3 races:

1 mile race
The entry fee for the 1 mile race is $10.00 plus a new toy.

5k and 10k .

The entry fee for these two races is $15 plus a new toy.

The race will begin in the parking lot of the Trinity Lutheran Church at 446 South Gay Street, Auburn, AL  36830.

All registered runners will receive a long sleeve t-shirt.  There will also be awards presented at the end of the races.

All toys and proceeds will be donated to the Toys for Tots Program and distributed by the City of Auburn Police Department to needy children in the area.
